Instructor
Development Course
Following
your success in achieving PADI Divemaster status, you will become
eligible to participate in the Instructor Development Courses (IDC).
This course will build on the knowledge, skills and leadership qualities
that you have demonstrated as a PADI Divemaster and introduce you
to those new skills appropriate to teaching the PADI system of diver
education.
The
PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the heart of the PADI
instructor training and development process and incorporates two PADI
programmes. The Assistant Instructor Course (AI) and the Open Water
Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI). If you are already a PADI Assistant
Instructor you need only complete the OWSI part of the PADI IDC.
The
focus of the PADI IDC is on Instructor development. This means that
you can relax whilst you learn, knowing that mistakes are very much
a part of the education process. It is here that you will apply the
knowledge and skills you have previously gained and apply them in
learning to teach the PADI system of diver education.
On
successful completion of a PADI IDC you will be become eligible to
attend an Instructor Examination (IE). The IE is a two day programme
that evaluates your diving knowledge and skills as well as your ability
to deliver teaching presentation in the classroom, open water and
confined water. This progrmme is conducted by a PADI Instructor Examiner
from one of their world wide offices.
IDC
Courses are run in May and November with the Instructor Examinations
taking place within one or two days of course completion.
